Born in Chicago, Illinois, December 7, 1932. Attended U.S. Naval Academy, B.S., 1954; U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, M.S. (electrical engineering), 1962. Served in U.S. Navy, 1950-84, retired as captain (Bronze Star for duty commanding a destroyer, Vietnam). Senior engineer and retired naval officer. Married; two children.
