The Committee will focus on the coordinate State efforts to improve the health, education, safety, and economic well-being of children in Maryland. By investigating what factors jeopardize the condition of the State's children, youth, and families, and by identifying what State policies and actions benefit them, the Committee will be able to recommend new laws, regulations and budget priorities to increase children's well-being. Also, the Committee will search out and make recommendations to remedy any interdepartment gaps, inconsistencies, or inefficiency in services to children and their families; keep the legislature informed on issues concerning children, youth, and families; and improve public awareness of their special needs.
Authorization for the Committee continues through May 31, 2002 (State Government Article, sec. 2-10A-06).
