The Task Force to Study the Comprehensive Licensing of Automotive-Related Industries was created in July 1998 (Chapter 378, Acts of 1998). The Task Force examined the scope of unlicensed activity in automotive-related industries. Such industries include automotive dismantlers and recyclers, body shops, auctions, scrap processors, towers, new and used vehicle dealers, wholesalers, and manufacturers. In addition, the Task Force studied the feasibility of and standards for licensing unlicensed businesses, and considered the resources needed to enforce a comprehensive licensing law.
On December 18, 1998, the Task Force submitted its first report to the Governor and General Assembly. After having submitted its report, the Task Force to Study the Comprehensive Licensing of Automotive-Related Industries was reauthorized by statute in 1999 (Chapter 318, Acts of 1999). The Task Force studied the scope of unlicensed activity in automotive-related industries, and the feasibility of and standards for licensing currently unlicensed businesses. The Task Force also considered the resources necessary to enforce a comprehensive licensing law, as well as ways to curb illegal activities in automotive-related industries.
The Task Force submitted its final report to the Governor and General Assembly in December 1999.
