The Advisory Committee to Study Funding Mechanisms for the Maryland Insurance Administration formed in September 1997 (Chapter 685, Acts of 1997). The Committee was asked to examine alternative mechanisms for funding the Maryland Insurance Administration and develop a proposal to apportion the cost of regulation fairly and equitably among the regulated entities. The proposal also was to recommend ways to reduce the cost of imposing and collecting fees and gauge the economic impact of the mechanism and possible retaliatory actions by other states.

The Committee submitted its report to the Governor and General Assembly in 1998. Authorization for the Committee ended May 31, 1998.
