Report to Governor due June 30, 2000.

The Governor began the Special Commission on State Parks in March 1999 (Executive Order 01.01.1999.06). The Commission identified and assessed the benefits received by the State from the State park system, including such factors as economic impact, outdoor adventures and eco-tourism, and the proper balance of recreation and resource management. It wrote guidelines to ensure the fiscal stability of the park system, and recommended ways to market and celebrate the official "Year of Maryland State Parks" in the year 2000.

The Commission concluded its work and reported to the Governor in June 2000.
