Served in U.S. Air Force, 1967-71 (commendation medal; meritorious service medal). University of Baltimore School of Law, J.D., 1973. Admitted to Maryland Bar, 1973. Member, Maryland State Bar Association (board of governors, 1985-86, 1988-89); Calvert County and Charles County Bar Associations. Past member, American Judicature Society; Maryland Trial Lawyers Association. President, Calvert County Cultural Arts Council, 1984-87.
