WASHINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND

MUNICIPALITIES

Within Washington County are nine municipalities: Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Funkstown, Hagerstown, Hancock, Keedysville, Sharpsburg, Smithsburg, and Williamsport. The earliest to incorporate was Hagerstown, the county seat, formed in 1813. It was followed by Williamsport (1823), Boonsboro (1831), Sharpsburg (1832), Clear Spring (1836), Funkstown (1840), Smithsburg (1841), Hancock (1853), and Keedysville (1872).
