WICOMICO COUNTY, MARYLAND

MUNICIPALITIES

Wicomico County has eight municipalities: Delmar, Fruitland, Hebron, Mardela Springs, Pittsville, Salisbury, Sharptown, and Willards. The oldest of these is Salisbury, the county seat, incorporated in 1854. Thereafter, Sharptown formed its own government (1874), as did Delmar (1888), Mardela Springs (1906), Pittsville (1906), Willards (1906), Hebron (1931), and Fruitland (1947).


DELMAR

Population (1990 census): 1,430

Half of Delmar lies in Maryland, half in Delaware (the dividing line runs down the middle of State Street). The Town's Maryland voters elect a town commission. The Town's Delaware voters elect a town council.
